A Guide to Fourth of July in Carlsbad, CA

Consider this your one stop guide to the Fourth of July in Carlsbad, whether you're a longtime local or hosting a group of out of towners for the weekend.

This year is a little extra special too. 2026 marks 250 years of America, and a couple of our local resorts are throwing a proper party for it.

Where to Watch Fireworks in Carlsbad

Carlsbad doesn't run its own citywide fireworks show, but you don't have to go far. A few resorts around town put on their own productions and there are solid spots to catch the glow nearby for free too.

LEGOLAND California Resort

Red White & BOOM

Extended park hours, DJ dance parties, and themed entertainment all day, capped off with a fireworks show that "explodes" into 3D LEGO brick shapes with special viewing glasses (while supplies last). All included with regular park admission.

1 LEGOLAND Drive, Carlsbad

Local Tips: You can see these fireworks great from the LEGOLAND parking lot too. If you can’t make it into the park that day and have a pass with parking included, it’s a great move to have an awesome viewing spot for the show. I would advise driving out before the very end of the show, the traffic getting out of the lot can take a long time.

Park Hyatt Aviara

4th of July BBQ & Firework Spectacular

5:30pm to 8:30pm. A mesquite charred BBQ spread with a kids' buffet, live music from the Chad Rubin Band, stilt walkers, balloon twisters, and face painters, followed by fireworks over the resort. Reservations are required and space is limited, so book early if this is your pick.

7100 Aviara Resort Drive, Carlsbad

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa

Star-Spangled Spectacular

6pm to 9:30pm, celebrating 250 years of America with live music from Perry O'Neil, the La Costa Corral activity zone (lasso stations, ring toss, cornhole, sack races), a 25 foot rock climbing wall, inflatables, and fireworks at 9pm

Heads up: reserved tickets for this one are sold out for 2026. If it's still your pick, you can catch the glow from nearby without a reservation. A few nearby streets around the resort (look for elevated ones) tend to offer a solid distant view once the sky lights up.

North Coast Calvary Chapel

Free Community Fireworks Lookout

5:30pm to 9:30pm. The campus opens up as a free spot to watch the fireworks, no ticket or reservation needed, which makes it a great pick if you have young kids in tow.

Bring a picnic on the lawn and enjoy praise and patriotic music with Chuck Butler and friends.from 5:30-7:30pm and Kona Ice will be on site starting at 7:30pm if you want a treat while you wait for the sky to light up.

1330 Poinsettia Lane, Carlsbad

More Ways to Celebrate Around Town

Fireworks aren't the only thing happening. A few of our favorite local spots are throwing their own celebrations this year.

The Camp Store

Live Music with The Surf Birdz

5:30pm to 8pm right in the South Carlsbad Campground, overlooking the beach from the bluff. Think pizza, beer, and San Diego’s Classic Rock Experience live to celebrate.

Local Tip: You can reserve and book a table or the firepit ahead of time online.

Always Hungry Grocery & Goods x One Teaspoon of Yum, Pop Up

Philly Pino Fourth of July Pop Up

A one day only mashup bringing Filipino Philly cheesesteaks and Mais Con Yelo ice candy to the Village. 11am to 3pm at 325 Carlsbad Village Dr, a great lunch stop before the beach or fireworks.

Local Tip: They are open their regular hours this Fourth of July, 9 AM–7:30 PM, so you can grab snacks and treats before the beach, BBQ, or fireworks.

Coyote Bar & Grill

4th of July Hoedown

An all day affair at Village Faire with live music from The Buckley's (1 to 4:30pm) and Groove Squad (6 to 10pm), followed by DJ Tigerlily until 1:30am. Expect burgers, slow smoked ribs, drink specials, and giveaways.

The Morning After: Give Back to the Coast

Surfrider Foundation San Diego County

The 4th of July is the most crowded beach day of the year in Carlsbad, and it shows the next morning. Surfrider Foundation San Diego County hosts their 20th annual Morning After Mess cleanup at South Ponto Beach on Sunday, July 5th from 9 to 11am, one of the cleanup sites in San Diego.

Heads up: this one is currently full, but you can join the waitlist in case spots open up. If you want to give back to the coast the morning after, this is a great way to do it, and a very Carlsbad way to close out the holiday weekend.

Quick Tips for the Day

  • Parking fills up early near the beaches and the Village. Arrive early for a good spot.

  • Sunset is typically around 8pm in early July, with most shows kicking off closer to 9pm.

  • Bring layers. It cools off fast once the sun goes down.

FAQ

Does Carlsbad have its own city fireworks show?

Not a citywide show, but LEGOLAND, Park Hyatt Aviara, and Omni La Costa each put on their own, and you can catch the glow for free from the nearby areas.

Are personal fireworks legal in Carlsbad?

No. All fireworks remain illegal throughout San Diego County, and the city's updated ordinance (in effect since May 2026) holds property owners and renters responsible for illegal fireworks used on or near their property, even if a guest is the one who sets them off. Carlsbad Police, Fire, and Code Enforcement are actively responding to complaints, so leave the fireworks to the professionals and enjoy one of the shows above instead.

Is there public transportation to any of these events?

The Coaster has a stop in Carlsbad Village, which is walkable to both the Always Hungry pop up and Coyote Bar & Grill's Hoedown. It won't get you to LEGOLAND, Park Hyatt Aviara, or Omni La Costa, so plan to drive or rideshare for those. NCTD will offer a holiday schedule for July 4.
