Carlsbad Through a Local’s Eye: San Diego Girl Mom, Yesenia

Yesenia, known online as @sandiegogirlmom, is a true San Diego native with coastal roots that run deep. Growing up near the ocean gave her an early appreciation for all the everyday magic that cities like Carlsbad have to offer — from breezy beach days to family-friendly hidden gems you only discover by exploring.

A mom of two girls and married for 12 years, Yesenia loves finding new places to enjoy with her family and sharing those discoveries with the wider San Diego community. Whether she’s highlighting a local business, uncovering a new adventure spot, or revisiting a longtime favorite, she brings a warmth and curiosity that make her recommendations feel like they’re coming from a trusted friend.

We caught up with Yesenia and asked her to share the Carlsbad spots, rituals, and little moments she loves most right now.

The Camp Store

I love that it’s family friendly with live music and food overlooking the ocean with seasonal themed light shows year round!

Leo Carrillo Ranch

I love visiting and strolling through Leo Carrillo ranch with my kids because it’s free and beautiful and full of so much history.

Legoland

Legoland is another favorite and I actually got to visit on opening day as a field trip in fifth grade!

The Cottages

I love the cottages in Carlsbad because it’s dog and kid friendly and you have a variety of coffee shops and restaurants to choose from while you enjoy the sunshine and great weather of Carlsbad and relax!

Norte Mexican Food & Cocktails

It’s been around for decades and it’s a traditional authentic family and local favorite! My go to is the mixed chicken burrito ( with red sauce) and a side of rice. They have great margaritas too!

Kids and Coffee

Kids and coffee is a place we frequent regularly because of the amazing environment they have created for parents and children. We love how they have a cafe inside and workshops and classes for kids in addition to the great indoor playground.

The Flower Fields

Of course I can’t forget the Carlsbad flower fields!
