7 Ways to Enjoy Warm Weather Days in Carlsbad
When the forecast suddenly jumps into the 80s in March, it’s hard not to do a double take.
Warm weather like this is one of the reasons so many of us love living in Carlsbad. When a day like this hits, the question quickly becomes: how do you take advantage of it?
From beach walks and lagoon paddleboarding to cold treats and sunset trails, here are a few favorite ways locals spend a warm day in Carlsbad.
Take a Beach Walk Before Dinner
Sometimes the best plan is the simplest one.
When the weather warms up, the Carlsbad coastline becomes the perfect place for a casual evening walk. This is a great time to catch the ocean breeze and watch the sunset before grabbing dinner nearby.
Warm evenings like this are exactly what coastal living is all about.
Local Tip: Park at the Tamarack parking lot or street parking along Coast Highway and walk North up the Seawall until it ends in the Village. Find a place to grab dinner in the Village and stroll back down the Seawall trail to enjoy that evening view.
Paddleboard at the Lagoon
For a water adventure, head to Agua Hedionda Lagoon.
California Watersports offers a variety of on-the-water rentals including paddleboards, kayaks, pedal boats, and other small watercraft.
If you already have your own paddleboard or kayak, you can launch from the Carlsbad Lagoon area (for a $10 launch fee) or the public beach access off Bayshore Drive at the back of the lagoon. To launch your own kayak or paddleboard you are required to have a city permit to be on the water. California Watersports sell the $9 daily permit in their office.
On a warm day with glassy water, this is one of the most peaceful ways to spend a few hours outdoors.
Local Tip: Launching from the public beach on Bayshore Drive is a great free option, but expect street parking and a short walk to the water. There are no public restrooms at this access point.
Visit the Flower Fields
Spring in Carlsbad means it’s time to visit The Flower Fields in Carlsbad.
Warm weather is a beautiful time to walk the gardens, let the children play in Santa’s Village playground, grab an ice cream, take photos, and enjoy the seasonal displays.
For locals, it’s one of those classic Carlsbad experiences that never gets old.
Local Tip: For locals, the season pass is the move. It pays for itself in just a couple visits, includes unlimited wagon rides this year (these are usual an additional charge), and allows you to stop by whenever you want without worrying about reservations.
Grab an Ice Cream or Cold Treat Around Town
When Carlsbad jumps into the 80s, it’s basically an open invitation to go find something cold and delicous.
A few local favorites include:
• GelatoLove in Carlsbad Village for small-batch gelato and an after-dinner stroll.
• Handel's Homemade Ice Cream for generous scoops and classic ice cream flavors.
• Aloha Ice Co. for Hawaiian-style shave ice that feels especially perfect on a warm day.
• Crispy Cones, a newer spot known for its warm rolled pastry cones filled with ice cream and toppings.
• Jeni's at the Beacon for unique, chef-driven flavors that have built a loyal following.
Local’s Tip: If you are looking to find the nostalgic scoops of Thrifty Ice Cream, you can find them at The Sweet Spot in the Village and conveniently located inside the Shell Gas Station at Bressi Ranch. If you prefer the pint of Thrifty Ice Cream stop by Vons, Stater Brothers, CVS or Gelsons.
Hit the Pool
When temperatures climb, a pool day starts sounding pretty good. There are a few great ways locals can cool off around Carlsbad.
Resort Pool Day Pass
Through ResortPass, locals can book day access to several resort pools nearby, turning a regular day into a mini vacation.
Options include:
• Park Hyatt Aviara Resort
• Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach, a Hilton Resort and Spa
• The Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa

Community Pool Option
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly and fun option, the aquatic center at Alga Norte Aquatic Center offers recreational swim hours ($5 for adults and $3 for children).
Local Tip: Want to make a full FAMILY day of it? The Alga Norte Aquatic Center offers a splash pad by the pool as well as a sprawling playground (with restrooms) and an epic skate park next door, all using the same parking lot.
Batiquitos Lagoon Nature Trail
To end the day, head to Batiquitos Lagoon Trail.
This flat scenic trail winds along one of Carlsbad’s most beautiful natural areas and is especially peaceful in the evening when the sun begins to set.
Warm days often lead to beautiful golden hour light over the water, making it a perfect way to wrap up a day outdoors.
Local Tip: Turn it into a full day: pool time at Park Hyatt Aviara Resort (see ResortPass options above) during the afternoon, then a sunset walk along the nearby lagoon trails. Check out these map guides for route options from Park Hyatt Aviara Resort HERE.
Catch the Sunset at the Beach
Few things beat a Carlsbad sunset after a warm day.
Whether you sit in the sand, walk along the shoreline, or watch from the Seawall, the sky often lights up with shades of orange and pink as the sun drops into the Pacific.
It’s the perfect way to slow down and end a warm day outdoors. The time of day when everyone pauses and slows down to catch the last few moments of the sun together.
Local Tip: If you’re hoping for great photos, time your visit around golden hour and blue hour. Golden hour (the hour or two before sunset) creates that soft, glowing beach light, while blue hour about 20–30 minutes after sunset often brings the most colorful skies.
