Where to See Christmas Lights This Holiday Season

There are two kinds of holiday-light people: the ones who map out their route with military precision… and the ones who simply hop in the car, turn on “Jingle Bell Rock,” and see where the night takes them.

To make things even easier this year, I put together a custom Google Map with the must see residential holiday light displays. Whether you’re a route-planner or a “let’s just drive and see what happens” kind of family, you can cruise Carlsbad without missing the good stuff.

If there’s a magical spot your family loves, I’d genuinely love to hear about it. DM me or contact me through the website so I can add it to the map.

To make your lights drive even better, we created a Spotify playlist made for Carlsbad nights. Save it to your library to enjoy again and again. Your soundtrack for chasing Santas on Highland Drive, rolling past glowing golf carts in the Village, and visiting Carlsbad’s most magical homes. A mix of classics, cozy vibes, and kid-approved favorites for the perfect holiday lights drive.

Whichever camp you fall into, Carlsbad has a handful of can’t-miss spots that make December sparkle.

Here’s where to wander, walk, or cruise for a little December magic.

Ho Ho Highland

A street full of Santas

Highland Drive has built a reputation for going all-in on Christmas cheer, and by “in” we mean fully surrounded by Santas. Residents line their yards with towering inflatable St. Nicks, creating a glowing, whimsical parade of red suits and twinkling lights.

It’s playful, unexpected, and hands-down one of Carlsbad’s happiest holiday traditions. It’s a fun game to count the Santas as you pass by.

Sits right near the Tamarack Ave & Highland Drive cross streets — look for cars slowing down and glowing red Santas.

Local Tip: It’s at its best after dark. Go slow, be respectful, and remember you are driving through a neighborhood.

Carlsbad Holiday Golf Cart Parade

Carlsbad’s Version of a Boat Parade

Carlsbad doesn’t have a harbor… but we do have something just as festive: the beloved Carlsbad Holiday Golf Cart Parade. Each December, locals deck out their carts in everything from Winter Wonderland to Candy Cane Lane. The result? A moving light show rolling straight through the Village.

Kids LOVE it, adults get a kick out of the creativity, and the whole thing feels very “only in Carlsbad.”

Local Tip: The official route will be shared closer to the date (keep an eye out for their Instagram announcement, follow @carlsbad_holiday_cart_parade).

Holiday Garden Party at Park Hyatt Aviara

A Beautiful Property and Experience

The Holiday Garden Party at Park Hyatt Aviara is one of the most magical ways to celebrate the season in Carlsbad. For select December nights, the resort transforms into a glowing holiday wonderland with a nightly tree lighting show, live performances, train rides through twinkling lights, festive bounce houses, and real reindeer you can meet and pet. The thirty foot Christmas tree sets the tone and makes the whole night feel nostalgic and joyful.

There is also a charming holiday market with artisan gifts, seasonal treats and warm drinks. It is the perfect spot to wander with family and soak in the festive atmosphere.

When: December 10 to 14 and 17 to 23 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Saturday and Sunday hours: 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Admission tickets are required and available to purchase online ahead of time HERE.

Local Tip: The Park Hyatt Aviara is starting a new tradition and offering Private Fireside Lounges at the Holiday Garden Party, sold separately HERE. The perfect spot for roasting marshmallows and sipping hot cocoa together.

The Palusso Family Light Show

A Truly Spectacular Holiday Display in Carlsbad

2695 Medford Court, Carlsbad

If you’re only going to visit one house this season, make it this one. The Palusso family turns their Medford Court home into a full-blown holiday show with music-synced lights, glowing paths, and the kind of joyful chaos that makes kids lose their minds in the best possible way.

This isn’t just a neighborhood favorite anymore… it’s officially nationally recognized. The Palussos were featured on ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight,” which tells you everything you need to know about their commitment to Christmas magic.

Local Tip: Weeknights are your friend. You’ll get the magic without the Saturday-night caravan.

The Camp Store

Free Holiday Light Show on the Bluff

If you want something festive, fun, FREE and totally Carlsbad, The Camp Store is bringing back its free Holiday Light Show and it is such a good time. Picture bluff side outdoor dining, twinkling lights and music all located on South Carlsbad State Beach.

The light show runs throughout the season. Grab dinner or a drink, enjoy the ocean air and let the kids watch the lights and listen to holiday songs. It is one of the easiest ways to make a simple night feel special.

Local Tip: Go a little early to catch the sunset. The sky fades, the lights kick on and the whole place feels magical.

Whether you’re going with friends, kids, or just driving around in pajamas, these spots make December feel a little more fun.
